There has been quite a bit of chatter recently about return to work—although we never really stopped working through the pandemic, we just did it differently. What people really mean is navigating hybrid teams, virtual work environments blended with onsite time. Leaders are scrambling to figure out what this all means and how to make it work. Many are feeling the pressure to get it right, and to get it right fast.
As many of my clients are facing this issue, I’ve been providing key questions to consider in three areas:
- Collaboration: How will that work in your hybrid model? Who needs to be where and when? What key activities do they need to be working on, and with whom?
- Connection: How will you ensure you are connecting with your team members and the are connecting with each other? What, if any, structures do you need to put into place? How might those structures look different than what you are doing today?
- Coaching: How am I supporting my people in accomplishing their deliverables and reaching desired outcomes? How do I need to work with them to ensure I can provide development oriented feedback, which is critical to satisfaction and retention? How do I balance flexibility and empathy with productivity and accountability?
What other issues or questions are you and your fellow leaders facing? I’d be curious to hear from you.
